Researches of KazNU Scientists Published in a Leading Scientific Journal
Scientists of the Photobiotechnology laboratory of al-Farabi Kazakh National University Bolathan K., Zayadan B.K. and Kosalbaev B.D. published a review article on the theme of "Hydrogen production from phototrophic microorganisms: Reality and perspectives" in «International journal of hydrogen energy», which has an impact factor of 4.03, with quartile-1 of the most powerful energy journals indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases.
The published review article is devoted to the main achievements, problems, and prospects for the development of green bioenergy. Hydrogen is a promising alternative to fossil fuels as a source of clean energy due to its high-energy intensity. The review reflects the capabilities of some strains of phototrophic microorganisms in producing biohydrogen. This article discusses methods for producing hydrogen using two large groups of phototrophic microorganisms, microalgae and cyanobacteria.
This article was prepared as part of the project AP05131218 "Development of non-waste technology for bio-treatment of wastewater and carbon dioxide utilization based on cyanobacteria for potential biodiesel production" and training of B. Kosalbaev in Ph.D. doctoral studies and Bolathan K. in post-doctoral studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijhydene.2019.01.092
