Kazakhstan-Qatar intergovernmental commissio
The fifth high-level meeting of the Kazakh-Qatari Joint Commission was held in Nur-Sultan on 13-14 February 2020. Deputy Dean of the Higher School of Economics and Business for Research-Innovation Affairs and International Relations, PhD Zhidbekkyzy Aknur took part in the meeting of the expert group of the intergovernmental commission.
The parties-participants of the IGC discussed the forthcoming visit of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, to Kazakhstan in March this year, as well as prospects for cooperation in trade and economic, investment and financial-banking and educational spheres.
At the meeting of the expert group the issues of further cooperation of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (as part of the Qatar Foundation), development of the Islamic Finance Center established on the basis of HSEB, the possibility of launching a double degree program in Islamic finance, etc. were discussed. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, Embassy of Qatar to Kazakhstan, Ministry of Education of Qatar, Qatar Fund for Development, Nazarbayev University and AIFC also participated in the expert group on "Education".
The main achievement of the commissio's work can be considered an agreement to provide educational grants for studying at Qatari universities to citizens of Kazakhstan.
The Qatari delegation to the Kazakhstani-Qatari Joint Commission at a high level was headed by Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Trade and Industry of that country. On behalf of the Government of Kazakhstan, the negotiations were conducted by Minister of National Economy R. Dalenov.
