FARABI CENTER TO OPEN IN BELGIUM

At the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, the Chairman of the Board-Rector of the KazNU named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebayev met with Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), editor-in-chief of the Internet publication "EUobserver" (Belgium) Kurt Diebof.

 

Famous historian, Arabist K. Diebof is the author of many articles and books on the topic of conflicts in the Middle East. As an expert on the region, Mr. K. Diebof has devoted 15 years to international political activity.

Greeting the guest, the rector of the university spoke about the history and formation of the university and noted that this is the only university in the world named after the great philosopher and scientist Abu Nasr al-Farabi. For the university, this is a special pride and great responsibility, because 11 centuries have passed since the time of the great thinker, but the teachings of Al-Farabi have not lost their relevance and significance in modern society.

KazNU conducts a wide range of activities for a comprehensive study and analysis of the creativity of Al-Farabi and the popularization of his works. The Al-Farabi Center, established in 1993, makes a significant contribution to the development of Farabi studies and Kazakhstani science in general. Its mission is to study and popularize the heritage of Al-Farabi, the formation of a national scientific, educational and innovation cluster on the basis of KazNU and many others.

From year to year, the scientific institution strengthens ties with foreign research centers, translates and publishes the works of the thinker of the East. A number of treatises and other works of al-Farabi were translated from the original - from Arabic into Kazakh and published as a large monograph.

 

So, last year, on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of Abu Nasr al-Farabi, an international conference was organized with the participation of famous scientists from the world. The head of the university also noted that on the basis of KazNU it is planned to create an international center for Farabi studies.

Thanking for the warm welcome, Kurt Dibov expressed a desire to cooperate with the leading university of Kazakhstan and asked for support in his work on researching the works of the Second Teacher of the East.

 

The parties also outlined plans for the future on further cooperation and the opening of the Al-Farabi Center in Belgium. The rector of the country's leading university expressed his readiness to provide all kinds of support in further research activities of the foreign guest.

During his visit to KazNU, Kurt Diebof visited the al-Farabi Museum and the Rare Books Fund of the library, getting acquainted with the university campus. He also met with leading Farabi scholars and philosophers of Kazakhstan at the Al-Farabi Center. The meeting was attended by: Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science, Director of the Al-Farabi Center Bekzhan Meirbayev, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of KazNU Zhakypbek Altayev, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor of the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Natalya Seytakhmetova , Doctor of Philosophy, Researcher of the Institute of Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies of the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Galiya Kurmangalieva, Head of the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science of KazNU Ainur Kurmanalieva and many others.

 

The participants shared their invaluable experience in the field of Russian Farabi studies, told about their creative plans for the future. In conclusion, Kurt Dieboff thanked everyone for their participation and warm welcome, and also expressed his intention to continue comprehensive cooperation with Al-Farabi KazNU.
