On November 24, 2022 within the framework of Russian literature week in Almaty, at the platform of Al-Farabi KazNU library, the International Round Table: "Literature and the Modern World" was held, which was organized by the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature of Al-Farabi KazNU in cooperation with the Institute of Translation (Moscow) and the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU.

The modern world sets many new challenges to literature. It is not an easy task to understand the rapidly - changing modernity and to write about it. The masters of the written word, Anastasia Strokina, Guzel Yakhina and Oleg Shishkin were discussing it with the students and the teachers of the Faculty of Philology. The Russian writers shared their opinions on the present and the future of literature, and the Executive Director of the Institute of Translation, Yevgeny Reznichenko told about the promotion of Russian literature in the world.

Akbope Berdievna Sikinbayeva, the Director of Al-Farabi KazNU library, made a welcoming speech. She expressed a confidence that such international meetings with writers from Russia will become traditional, thanks to the assistance and the cooperation with the Institute of Translation.

The meeting was moderated by Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, the Executive Director of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU, N.Zh. Shaimerdenova and Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature, the Director of the "ALTAIR" Academy of Children's Books, J.B. Amanzholova.

The meeting was held both offline and online (for students and teachers of other universities). The participants of the meeting listened with great attention to all the speakers and asked the guests questions about the work of writers, about the trends in the world and Russian literature, etc.

At the end of the meeting, books were donated to Al-Farabi KazNU library in the memory of today’s meeting, and everyone could get an autograph from the writers.

Biographical information of the participants-speakers:

Guzel Yakhina is a Russian writer who became famous thanks to the novel "Zuleikha opens her eyes", filmed in the format of the series. Later she published the novels "My Children" and "Echelon to Samarkand".

Anastasia Strokina is a children's writer, poet, translator. The Member of the Moscow Writers' Union and "Masters of Literary Translation" guild.

Oleg Shishkin is a Russian writer, playwright, screenwriter, art critic, journalist and TV presenter. The Member of the Union of Russian Writers. O. Shishkin wrote the books: "To Kill Rasputin", "Red Frankenstein", "Rasputin: the History of Crime", "Biography of Woland", etc.
