EXHIBITION OF SCIENTIFIC PROJECTS AT KAZNU
An exhibition of scientific and innovative achievements of Kazakhstani universities and research institutes was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. At the exhibition along with successful scientific developments of university scientists, student startups were presented.
Scientists of Al-Farabi KazNU, Satpayev University, KazNMU named after S. Asfendiyarov, SKSU named after M. Auezov, Science Fund JSC, Institute of Information and Computing Technologies, Institute of Combustion Problems, Institute of Zoology presented their achievements to the visitors.
Director of the Research Center of Medicinal Plants of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanar Zhenis told about the production of medicines made on the basis of Kazakhstani raw materials:
"Currently, biologically active additives are being produced that help prevent flu and liver diseases and increase immunity in general. In addition, herbal teas are produced that help lower blood sugar level, regulate blood pressure, improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal system. Today, the products manufactured in the center are used by patients of private small clinics. The further goal is to work with state polyclinics and pharmacies, to widely distribute products among the population," the professor claimed.
And Erkin Mamyrbayev, a scientist at the Institute of Information and Computing Technologies, has developed an automatic speech recognition system in the Kazakh that can convert voice messages into text. Today, the intelligent system "Kazak ASR" can be tested in Telegram.
Also several joint projects of the Science Fund and KazNU on the development of receivers based on nanomaterials, the creation of small spacecraft for educational institutions, the project of KazNTU named after K. Satpayev "Digital Twin of the Urban Heat Network", the "Red Book of Animals of Kazakhstan" of the Institute of Zoology and an electronic database of rare and endangered animals and more than thirty other innovations were presented.
The large-scale event with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan continued with the scientific and practical conference "The Development of University Science is a Necessary Prerequisite for the Innovative Development of Kazakhstan".
At the opening of the conference, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek made a welcoming speech, emphasizing the importance of developing science and innovation and creating a diversified, technological economy, which the Head of State spoke about. To date, branches of five leading foreign research universities have been opened in the Republic of Kazakhstan. For sustainable financing of university science, the concept of a separate law on endowment funds and a roadmap for the opening of endowment funds in five pilot universities in 2023 have been developed.
"The priority for the development of university science in Kazakhstan has shown high efficiency and impact. Indicators of research activity in the country in recent years are higher than in most post-Soviet countries that have preserved the traditional model of science. The development of university science will be promoted by the program of internationalization of the higher education system," the head of the department stressed.
Chairman of the Science Committee on the Development of University Science Darkhan Ahmed-Zaki in his report spoke about the main achievements of the country's universities, and also focused on the tasks set. "Within the framework of grant financing for 2018-2020, 1070 projects were implemented on 7 priorities for a total amount of 28.2 billion tenge. The largest number of projects were implemented by: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University -140, L. Gumilev Eurasian National University – 80, K. Satpayev Polytechnic University – 49 projects, etc. In terms of the number of citations and the availability of highly cited articles, the indicators of universities are significantly leading from other types of organizations. Within the framework of grant financing, 561 scientific projects (42%) are being implemented for a total amount of 21.7 billion tenge. In conclusion, Darkhan Zhumakanovich noted that work is to be done on the new law "On Science and Technology Policy", it is necessary to intensify work on the participation of universities in competitions for grant and program-targeted financing, etc.
The report of the Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev contained a detailed story about the results of scientific and innovative activities of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which was awarded the status of a research university by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2022. "Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has a powerful intellectual potential, authoritative scientific schools, known in Kazakhstan and the world for their work in the field of fundamental science," the head of the university stressed.
The participants noted the need to exchange best practices, expand cooperation between scientific organizations and universities. The issues of transformation of universities into research universities, improvement of legislation in the field of scientific and technological development were also widely discussed at the conference.
