Twenty students of KazNU Al-Farabi received scholarships of T.J. Pak steel company POSCO Foundation (Republic of Korea).
At the ceremony the Secretary General of the South Korean company T.J. Pak POSCO Foundation (POSCO), Young Jae Woon, Consul of the Embassy of Korea in Almaty, Kim Ji Man, Director of Almaty branch of the POSCO Foundation Park Ken Sik, program manager, Lee Hang Joon awarded the scholarships to best students of KazNU .
Young Woong Jae told about the activities of POSCO company, programs that are supported by the Foundation and their results. In particular, he gave an example, that a graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU in 2005, Yulia Andreeva, thanks to the support of the Foundation has successfully graduated from the University in South Korea and got a job in POSCO. Today, one more student of KazNU is studying in Korea, and the Foundation has granted a scholarship of 15,000 U.S.D. to one of the professors of the University.
"This year we mark the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Korea. The mutually beneficial partnership and friendship between two countries is strengthening every year. Students of the KazNU - the future of Kazakhstan, and we intend to continue to offer education in the most prestigious universities to the best students"- said Yang Jae Woong.
Vice-Rector of KazNU Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev made a welcoming speech to the distinguished guests and students. "Today the world economy is based on knowledge. Our State allocates significant funds for the development of education and science. Support of our students by POSCO Foundation is a good example of social commitment of business companies. This is an investment in human capital, science and education, in a bright future of Kazakhstan ", - said the Vice-Rector.
On behalf of the students, the student of the 2-d year of study at Higher School of Economics and Business Akmaral Narbay said "We study at the best University of the country. POSCO Foundation Scholarship for us is a pleasant surprise and a good incentive to have excellent results in study. We are grateful for this attention and will do our best to justify the trust of the Foundation ".
In 2006 the Foundation launched a new program "Scholarships to the best students in Asian countries." In the framework of this program the students of 12 Universities in 10 countries in Asia are granted premiums. KazNU Al-Farabi is one of the first who signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Foundation, under which every year the best students of the University are awarded special scholarships.
The world's largest steel group POSCO was founded in 1968 by T. J. Pak. The Company Foundation sponsors a variety of programs to support science, culture and education.
