Appreciation of international experts
Results of the evaluation of the scientific and innovative potential of Kazakhstan, carried out by international top experts of the European Union, have come out. The study commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the framework of IncoNet-EECA project.
According to the experts, al-Farabi Kazakh National University is an undisputed leader among the universities of Kazakhstan by science, technology and innovation potential. Thus, the results of a comprehensive analysis noted that al-Farabi Kazakh National University from 2007 to 2011 had participated in the implementation of more than 335 international programs and projects of the ISTC, INTAS, TEMPUS, IAEA, NATO in Science and Engineering. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is staying ahead of other universities in the number of publications in international ranking journals. In particular, university scientists published 710 scientific papers in journals from Scopus database and 829 publications in journals from Web of Science database. For comparison, the other leading universities, such as K.I.Satpaev Kazakh National Technical University – 35 and 213 publications, respectively, and L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University – 36 and 115 publications in Scopus and Web of Science databases, respectively.
Scientists at the University have a high level of scientific achievements, a number of them have Hirsch citation index which corresponds to the indices of scientists of the world top universities. In addition, in 2011 the proportion of the faculty who obtained certificates, patents for inventions and other law enforcement documents amounted to 11% of the total number of university scientists.
Experts accentuate that today al-Farabi Kazakh National University is the most successful university in implementing research and engineering programs and innovative projects in important areas of science and technology. No other university in the country can "boast" of authoritative scientific schools with rich research profile. In al-Farabi Kazakh National University, along with the first-rate technology park there are dozens of well-established far beyond the borders of Kazakhstan research institutes and centers, including international ones. In order to ensure the transformation of research results and ideas of scientists in innovative products in al-Farabi Kazakh National University there is a developed "technology corridor" which provides efficient operation of the entire innovation chain "from idea to implementation and commercialization of the product". It consists of subdivisions such as Center for Project Support, Office of Commercialization, Business Incubator. Noted that the university project "Innovation Cluster of al-Farabi Kazakh National University" included in the State Program on the Development of Innovation and Support for Technological Modernization of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014 MINT of RK allows the University more closely integrate into the National innovation system of Kazakhstan.
Thus, al-Farabi Kazakh National University comes nearer to solving the problem of creating a research university as the real constituent entity of "smart economy" aroused by N.A. Nazarbayev, the Head of the State.
