The "Candle of Knowledge" was lit at KazNU

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the most favorite holiday of the youth - "Dedication to students". The holiday was not without the participation of state and public figures of the country, famous scientists, businessmen and financiers, entertainers and media representatives and bloggers.

    The event was also attended by heads of foreign diplomatic missions and consular offices, faculty and students.

    The celebration began with the National Anthem. Then, to the sound of fanfare, there was a procession of newly minted freshmen from 16 faculties.

    Opening the solemn event, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev congratulated all those present with the beginning of the new academic year. Rector noted that the President of Kazakhstan K.K.Tokayev in his speech at the National Kurultai designated "the concepts of "Fair Kazakhstan" and "Adal azamat", which as fundamental values should always stand in a row. Responsibility and qualities of an honest citizen should be in every person, then justice will prevail in the country. The new nature of the nation will be formed through the development of education, science and culture".

    This year, striving to form a new identity for the nation, 7,436 applicants entered the first year. More than 4 thousand of them received a state grant. Among the first-year students, 637 people are holders of the "Altyn Belgi" sign and 267 are excellent students. 1340 people entered the master's program, 278 - doctoral program, - said the rector of KazNU. - 1098 students were admitted to the faculty of pre-university education.  In the new academic year KazNU enrolled 10,152 people. This is a great event. Today 25 thousand students are studying at the university, including 2.5 thousand foreign students who came from 50 countries of the world.

    The rector in his speech also noted important milestones in the history of KazNU and the results of its activities.

    This year 36 new educational programs were introduced in such areas as: "Information and Communication Technologies", "Arts and Humanities", "Health Care", "Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics", "Mechanical Engineering, Processing and Construction Industry", "Pedagogical Sciences".

    This summer at the Universiade in Aktau KazNU athletes won 39 gold, 27 silver, 22 bronze medals. At the Summer Universiade, which was held in Chengdu (China), the athletes of our university also showed good results.

    Next year will mark 90 years since the foundation of KazNU. In 2022, KazNU was granted the status of a research university by a government decree. With the support of the Head of State, the university opened its branches in Istanbul and Bishkek. Since last year KazNU has a branch of the National Nuclear Research University MEPhI. At present the opening of the branch of the Northwest Polytechnic University of China continues. New modern cafes, internet cafes, stores, coffee shops and copy centers have appeared on the campus. Construction of a 4,000-bed dormitory will begin this year.

    At the end of his speech Rector Zhanseit Tuimebaev lit the "Candle of Knowledge", symbolizing light, truth and knowledge, accompanied by ethno-jazz instrumental group "Damu".

    Then Kairat Mami, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Farabi KazNU, President of KazNU Alumni Association addressed the students.

    The celebration "Dedication to Students" was bright and unusual. Interesting games, pixel and laser show were presented for the audience. Also took part: popular youth performer Malika Yes, folklore ensemble "Akbulaq", winner of international competitions Galamat Beisekozhaev, Seifullin Zholbarys, Mukasan Shahzadaev, Royals Live Band, pixel show "Dream Lights", DJ and MS and others.

    Talented singers and amateur artists of the university took an active part in the event. Thus, the show "Gul Almaty" was prepared by students of the Faculty of Law. 30 foreign female students performed Chinese, Korean, Uzbek, Turkmen, Turkish folk dances and drew applause with their unparalleled performance. 140 students presented a bright presentation of the project "Healthy Lifestyle". The audience applauded the students' performance "All Together for the Country", which ended with the inscription "Adal Azamat". The evening of initiation into students was accompanied by a laser show and ended with a bright fireworks and disco.
