KazNU scientists took part in the conference on nuclear non-proliferation

Almaty Management University (AlmaU) hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Regime and Global Security: Challenges and Prospects". The conference was co-organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Almaty branch of MEPhI, the Tomiris Production Center and the business magazine Tochka Opori.

Welcoming speeches were made by: Vice-Rector for Science of AlmaU Bakhytzhan Sarkeyev, member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovative Activities of KazNU named after Al-Farabi Zhamila Aitzhanova, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications, Head of the UN Information Office in Kazakhstan Vlastimil Samek, member of the Pugwash Committee of Kazakhstan at KazNAEN Sergey Saveliev and others.

The conference was also attended by the staff of the Laboratory of Radiation Physics and Functional Materials of the Faculty of Physics and Technology. With the report "Radiation for peaceful purposes: Application of Accelerators in Science, Industry and Medicine on the Example of ELU-4" was delivered by B.A. Toronin, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory, as well as by M.E. Abishev, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Nuclear Physics. Abishev.

The conference gave the participants an opportunity to discuss topical issues related to nuclear nonproliferation and cooperation in the field of peaceful atom, which are becoming more and more relevant.

The aim of the conference was to contribute to strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) regime in order to achieve peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the international arena. The conference discussed the following topics: "Contemporary Challenges to the NPT Regime and Ensuring Global Security", "Regional Aspects of Cooperation between Countries in the Field of Nuclear Non-Proliferation", "The Role of Nuclear Energy in Ensuring Energy Security and Sustainable Development", and others.

Speakers included 28 experts on nuclear nonproliferation and global security issues. The conference participants learned about the history of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, various approaches of different countries, current trends and development prospects on this topic. 

The conference attracted the attention of the participants and ended with successful discussions on important issues in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
