Cooperation of Kazakhstan represented by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and educational organizations of France in the framework of sustainable development

First of all, this cooperation is aimed at the implementation of SDG 4 – quality education.  On September 22, 2022, a public defense of the dissertation of the doctoral student of the UNESCO Department of Sustainable Development Amutova Farida Bakhtiyarovna for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy under the joint PhD program of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the University of Lorraine (National School of Agronomy and Food Industry, URAFPA) on the topic: "Assessment of bioavailability of organochlorine pesticides in the chain "soil – agricultural animals-food" in the specialties "Ecology" and "Agronomic sciences".

The dissertation was carried out under the supervision of scientists from France and Kazakhstan:

- Prof., Dr. Stefan Jurjanz, University of Lorraine, URAFPA;

- Professor, PhD, Candidate of Biological Sciences Gauhar Konuspaeva, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University;

- Co-superviser of the dissertation - PhD Mathieu Delannoy, University of Lorraine, URAFPA.

Following the results of a successful defense at the University of Lorraine, Nancy, France, the dissertation committee applied for the award of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) to Amutova F. B.

In addition to students, KazNU teachers also improve their qualifications in educational institutions in France. For example, at the Technical Mining Higher School of Paris for the training of engineers, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry, whose main task is to train the elite of engineers for industry, especially in the field of energy and mining.

The result of the internship at this educational institution of the Associate Professor of the UNESCO Department of Sustainable Development Kozhakhan Aigul Karipzhanovna was the development of the project "Methods of development of facing stone. Prospects for Kazakhstan"

After successfully defending the project, Kozhakhan A.K. was awarded an international diploma.

Today, Aigul Karipzhanovna keeps in touch with graduates of the Higher National School of Mining Industry of Paris.

The Head of the UNESCO Department for Sustainable Development Bazarbayeva Tursynkul Amankeldievna took part in the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in 2019. 

The General Conference meets every two years and includes representatives of all Member States of the Organization, i.e. UNESCO member States and associate members participate in its work. The UNESCO Department of Sustainable Development received this status in 2016 with the provision of interim and final reports.

Based on the final report, in 2021, the UNESCO status was extended to the department and the agreement of the UNESCO representation and the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was renewed. In its official letter, the UNESCO Bureau noted the significant contribution of the Department to the promotion of Sustainable Development Goals.

The department is actively working on the implementation of the principles of the "Green Office", which includes measures for energy and resource conservation. There is an official website where you can get acquainted with the results of activities in this area

On the basis of the department, in March 2021, the journalists' advanced training course "Environmental Journalism within the SDGs" was held.

On November 4, 2022, a working meeting was held between representatives of the UNESCO Department for Sustainable Development of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University represented by the head of the Department Tursynkul Bazarbayeva and Associate Professor of this department Aigul Kozhakhan with the Adviser of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to UNESCO Rysbek Alibekov in Paris (France). During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of expanding cooperation between the university and UNESCO within the framework of the UNITWIN program.  Also, the staff of the department managed to establish contact at UNESCO Headquarters with the heads of other departments around the world.

To date, cooperation is being carried out with the world's leading universities in the framework of support and achievements of the SDGs.
