KazNU discussed topical issues of Korean studies in Kazakhstan

In the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University the international scientific conference "Actual issues of Korean studies of Kazakhstan in the context of Asian studies in the modern world", dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the honored figure of Kazakhstan, professor, doctor of historical sciences Kim German Nikolayevich was held.

The event was attended by Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aliya Mustafina, Deputy Head of the Association of Kazakh diplomats Maksat Nurmagambetov, Chairman of the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan Yuri Shin, General Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies named after R.B.Suleimenov Duken Masimkhanuly. R.B.Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies, Duken Masimkhanuly, representatives of mass media, teaching staff of the university, students and relatives of the jubilee.

Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev congratulated Doctor of History Kim German on the anniversary and noted his great contribution to the development of Kazakhstani education and science.

"German Nikolayevich is a graduate of our university. He began his professional path in 1977 at the Department of Foreign Languages. He worked as a professor of the Far East Department of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, headed the Department of Korean Studies of KazNU. Besides, he fruitfully worked as a professor in the universities of the USA and Japan. We can proudly say that the whole intellectual life of Prof. Kim German Nikolayevich is closely connected with our university. Professor Kim as an outstanding scientist-teacher, has made and makes a great contribution to the development of Kazakhstani education and science", - said the rector.

During the conference congratulatory letters were read out: Deputy Chairman of the ANC, Head of the Secretariat of the ANC, Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Marat Azilkhanov, Head of the Department for the Development of Interethnic Relations - ANC Secretariat of the Department of Public Development of Almaty Nazar Balgimbayev, Director of the Education Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea Kim Taehwan and others.

Video congratulations from foreign Korean professors, rectors, and directors of research institutes and centers were also shown.

The participants of the conference discussed topical issues of Korean studies in Kazakhstan, new perspectives of Oriental studies in our country.

During the event, a video about the life and scientific activity of Kim German Nikolayevich, prepared by the Far East Department, was shown. An exhibition of the scientist's scientific works was organized as part of the conference.
