February 27, 2024 at the Department of the Far East, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi KazNU., with the support of the Education Center of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Department, an essay competition was held in Korean. Second-year students took part in the competition. The competition was held with great enthusiasm and interest. The participants wrote an essay on the topic “My city is Almaty,” demonstrating a high level of proficiency in the Korean language and the richness of the text. Because the essay is a comprehensive exam, they tend to be more difficult than mock exams. Moreover, the participants are still in their second year of study, but the essays written were excellent in terms of grammar and structure (introduction, body and conclusion), and the content was well expressed with interesting sentences. Participants who took prizes in the competition were awarded a cash prize and gifts. We sincerely congratulate the essay winners and really hope that the level of the Korean language not only of the participants, but also of all students of the Department will improve.
