Round table discussion on the topic: “Clean water is the source of life”
On April 11, 2024, at the Faculty of Chemistry of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the senior teachers of the Department of Russian Philology and World Literature Bazarbaeva A.S. and Abdullaeva Zh.T. together with students of TFP 203 and HI 106, held a round table discussion on the topic: “Clean water is the source of life” within the framework of SDG 6 “Clean water and sanitation”.
The students from two groups prepared speeches to discuss a current acute problem for Kazakhstan - the lack of clean water for drinking in many regions of the country. The availability of clean drinking water is the key to the survival of the entire population of the country. We need to work on how to develop an attitude among the younger generation towards the use of water as any mineral, on a par with gas and oil. During the discussion, the students expressed their position on the need for thrift in water consumption as a guarantee of economical use of this strategically important resource. There is already a shortage of drinking water in remote regions; more than 600 thousand people need clean drinking water. The students also raised the issue of one of the problems of water shortage in Kazakhstan - the dependence of our country on the resources of neighboring countries bordering us.
Issues regarding the use of water resources must be coordinated with representatives of neighboring states, which cannot always be resolved in favor of our country. Further, the problems of the presence and repair of canals, strengthening canal structures, and the construction of dams and bridges were taken into account. This issue is also an important part for solving the provision of clean drinking water to the residents of the republic. The discussion was lively, thestudents shared their personal experiences and proposed optimal solutions to this acute, global problem for Kazakhstan.
