The 7th Asian International Conference Asian Mechanisms and Machine Science (Asian MMS-2024) kicked off at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where industry experts discuss current trends and issues of modern machine science.

The organisers of the large-scale forum were: Institute of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering named after U.A.Joldasbekov. U.A. Joldasbekov Institute of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering named after U.A. Joldasbekov, the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

On the first day of the conference, a campus tour was organised for the participants and guests of the event. They visited the Al-Farabi Museum, the Kazakh-Chinese joint laboratory ‘Remote Sensing Technologies and their Applications’, 10 new innovative laboratories of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management, a workshop for the production of pharmaceuticals, a cluster of engineering and knowledge-intensive technologies and other facilities located on the campus.

The plenary session of the second day of the forum was opened by the moderator - Amandyk Tuleshov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Academician of MIA, Vice-President of NIA RK, Director General of the Institute of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering named after Academician U.A. Joldasbekov.

He noted that the conference is held under the auspices of the authoritative International Federation for the Promotion of Science of Mechanisms and Machines IFToMM - a large international scientific community, uniting scientists and engineers from 50 countries around the world. Independent Kazakhstan - a member of IFToMM since 1991.

Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. The head of the university noted that this year the research university, which occupies 163rd place in the international QS rating, celebrates the 90th anniversary of its foundation. Actively developing the direction of robotics, the university introduces modern educational programmes and creates research laboratories. To celebrate the anniversary, KazNU opened the Scientific Centre for Sustainable Development and Environmental Management, which includes 10 laboratories. A modern cluster Farabi Chem Science with 9 laboratories was created at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies. By the end of the year it is planned to open KazNU-hub, where international and domestic leading technology companies will be located. The Centre of Engineering Competences in the field of industrial robotics and robotisation will function. In addition, delivery of a supercomputer, which has no analogue in Central Asia, is expected. The University trains specialists in the following areas: ‘Mechanics’, “Automated Systems and Controls” and “Robotics Systems”, etc.

‘The conference brings together scientists from around the world - the USA, Japan, the PRC, India, Taiwan, Italy, Poland, Germany, Turkey and the CIS,’ the rector said. - It opens a great opportunity for further development of intelligent and robotic systems at the university and joint research work’.

Rakhman Alshanov, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician, Rector of Turan University, President of the Association of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, congratulated the participants on the opening of the conference and the anniversary of Al-Farabi KazNU.

He also read out the welcoming speech of the President of the National Engineering Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Academician Bakytzhan Zhumagulov. ‘Live communication of authoritative scientists at scientific forums, approbation of scientific results, discussion of prospects and directions of work is a real engine for science. I am glad that it continues in the current difficult times. I am sure that the 7th Asian International Conference Asian Mechanisms and Machine Science will bring important results, which is held under the auspices of the authoritative International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanisms and Machine Science IFToMM,’ the greeting said.

Vice-Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Darhan Ahmed-Zaki read out the welcoming speech of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek. ‘Holding Asian Mechanisms and Machine Science is an important scientific event in the life of the country. Undoubtedly, will make a significant contribution to the development of science on mechanisms and machines and robotics in Kazakhstan, will contribute to the practical contribution of our scientists and foreign partners in the development of mechanical engineering and related sectors of the economy’, - said the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, wishing the participants fruitful work and success in research activities.

The plenary session was also addressed by: President of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akylbek Kurushbayev, President of IFToMM Andres Kecskemeti, Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee of Asian MMS-2024, Honorary President of IFToMM Marco Ceccarelli and others.

The conference continued with breakout sessions: ‘History and Education in Mechanisms and Machines Theory’, “Design of Mechanisms and Machines”, “Biomechanics and Medical Robotics”.
