On October 6, a nationwide referendum on the issue of building a nuclear power plant will be held in Kazakhstan
In his Address to the people of Kazakhstan “Fair Kazakhstan: Law and Order, Economic Growth, Public Optimism” the Head of State Kasym-Jomart Tokayev noted the need to implement a number of important decisions for the country. One of them is to hold a national referendum on the construction of nuclear power plants in order to prevent energy shortages in the country. In this regard, he emphasized that “Given the growing global energy deficit, we are in dire need of reliable and environmentally friendly energy sources. Therefore, in my opinion, it is necessary to pay the closest attention to the development of nuclear energy. This type of generation can largely meet the rapidly growing needs of our economy. At present, there are about 200 nuclear power plants in operation in 30 developed and developing countries.” In addition, a number of hearings on the construction of nuclear power plants were held in many regions of our republic.
The results of the referendum with participation of the population of the republic will be known after October 6 of this year.
