NATIONAL REFERENDUM ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS IN KAZAKHSTAN: ARGUMENTS AND PROSPECTS

16 september, 2024

In the message of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Kemeluly Tokayev to the people of Kazakhstan, he asked for a national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan on October 6.

In general, there is still a lot of ambivalence regarding the NPP construction project. However, the number of supporters has been increasing recently. Industry specialists, energy workers and scientists have been saying for a long time that the construction of the nuclear power plant would lead to the development of the economy and improvement of the social situation in the country. There is something to hide, it seems that the people have realized that the current problem for moving the economy forward is related to electricity. "Just as sunlight and heat are necessary for human beings, nuclear power plants are very necessary for our country to join the ranks of civilized countries and live independently of electricity. It is better to think about tomorrow today. In the future, when there is a threat of electricity shortage, we should not give up the construction of nuclear power plants, but we should support it as a country.
