THE REFERENDUM AS AN IMPORTANT TOOL FOR MAKING MAJOR DECISIONS

   In the Address of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ‘Fair Kazakhstan: law and order, economic growth, social optimism’ dated 2 September 2024, attention was focused on the problem of global energy resources deficit. The development of nuclear energy is considered one of the promising areas capable of satisfying the country's growing energy needs.

In order to implement the tasks mentioned in the Address, a national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant will be held on October 6, 2024. This shows that the country firmly adheres to democratic principles, that the opinion of all citizens is important in the issue of building a nuclear power plant, and that a referendum is an important tool for making major decisions in the history of the country.
