Republican referendum question

     On September 20, 2024, a meeting was held with 1st year students (groups 113 and 103) of the Faculty of Law on the topic “The question of the republican referendum.” At the meeting, questions about the right to participate in the republican referendum and the environmental rights of citizens were discussed.

The head of the department of civil law and civil procedure, labor law, Doctor of Law, Professor Suleimenova S.Zh. delivered a welcoming speech.

In her speech, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law and Civil Procedure, Labor Law Ospanova D.A. noted that “On October 6, 2024, a republican referendum on the nuclear power plant construction project will take place. A referendum is a form of active citizenship, and the topic of a referendum can be changes to the Constitution, the adoption of a law or other important issue. Every step in the life of the country is taken together with the people, and that the people are given the right to choose whether to build a nuclear power plant or not.”

PhD of the Department of Civil Law and Civil Procedure, Labor Law Myrzataev N.D. spoke out that currently the energy sector of Kazakhstan is heavily dependent on coal-fired power plants, which provide about 70% of all electricity generated in the country. And a referendum allows citizens to be involved in solving an important state matter, and each person is personally invited for this task.”

At the end of the meeting, a survey was conducted among students.
