KazNU tops the world scientific citation rankings
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has become the leader of the world scientific citation rankings, especially in the field of scientific research. This prestigious achievement highlights the university's outstanding contribution to world science, as its scientists consistently publish research that is frequently cited in various disciplines.
In a recent analysis conducted by the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a list of the most cited authors in the Web of Science database was compiled. The analysis covered a five-year period from 2019 to 2023 and focused on articles with a Kazakh affiliation. It is noteworthy that among the leading authors were scientists from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Turksoy Department of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, such as Professor Zubayda Shadkam and Associate Professor Mirzakhan Egamberdiev, which underlines the important role of the university in the academic world. The study divided scientists into six major research areas and ranked them by the average number of citations per author. In the case where several authors participated in writing the same article, citations were distributed fairly among them.
For example, if an article written by 100 researchers received 1,000 citations, 10 citations were credited to each author. KazNU's dominant position in these rankings is evidence of the university's powerful research programs, supported by cutting-edge laboratories and commitment to scientific progress. The Department of Turkic Studies, along with others, played a key role in achieving this success. One of the unique features of this citation analysis is the use of the InCites system, a scientific analytics tool that takes into account only articles with verified Kazakh affiliation. This once again confirms that KazNU occupies one of the leading positions among research institutions both in Kazakhstan and globally. High citation rates not only reflect the quality and significance of the research conducted by KazNU scientists, but also enhance the university's international reputation. This ranking highlights the important role of Kazakh science in the global scientific community and demonstrates that KazNU continues to influence the future of research and education on a global scale.
