Al-Farabi KazNU and Hong Kong Polytechnic University discussed the creation of a joint center

A delegation from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), which ranks 57th in the QS WUR 2025 ranking, visited Al-Farabi KazNU on a working visit.

The delegation included Director of the China and Global Development Network, Department of Applied Social Sciences HaK, Co-Director of the Beijing-Hong Kong Center for Social Work Research in China Ben Ku.

As part of the visit, the guests met with the Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences A.S. Aktymbayeva. The Dean presented the scientific and innovative activities of the faculty, which are carried out in the scientific center "Sustainable Development and Environmental Management", the Kazakh-Chinese laboratory "Remote Sensing Technology and Application" and current research projects aimed at studying and developing sustainable methods of nature management. Then, the head of the department of recreational geography and tourism R.M. Bayburiyev, deputy head of the department I. Akbar presented scientific and educational activities of the department and discussed issues of cooperation in the field of tourism and hotel business.

Afterwards, together with the PolyU delegation, a project of a joint center for sustainable development in Central Asia was initiated, which will serve as a focal point for academic and professional exchange between scientists, practitioners and government officials from the region.

This meeting implements SDG 4 - quality education; SDG 8 - decent work and economic growth; SDG 17 - partnerships for sustainable development.
