On October 14, 2024, senior lecturer of the Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre Alimseitova Zh.K. held a round table with 4th year students of the specialties "6B07304-Cadastre" and "6B07303-Land Management" on the topic "Clean water and sanitation: challenges and solutions in Kazakhstan", dedicated to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 - Clean water and sanitation.

Access to clean water and sanitation is not only a matter of health, but also a foundation for the well—being of society as a whole. Water is the basis of life, and without it neither the economy, nor industry, nor agriculture can develop. The UN considers access to clean water and sanitation to be one of the global goals for sustainable development, Goal number 6. We all know that Kazakhstan is a country where water is not always evenly distributed. For example, there are not as many water resources in the south and in the western part of the country as in the central or eastern part. This creates many problems for both agriculture and the population. One of the serious problems is the pollution of reservoirs. Industrial waste, agricultural runoff, household pollution — all this worsens the quality of water. But even if water enters settlements, it often does not undergo sufficient purification, and people have to deal with contaminated water, which affects their health. Problems with water supply and sanitation are not only problems of the state and large organizations. Each of us can contribute. Careful attitude to water resources, participation in environmental actions, promotion of an environmentally friendly lifestyle — all this is important for the sustainable development of our country. Think about how you can help solve the problem with water supply, starting with personal habits and ending with participation in projects aimed at improving the environment.
