THE GRADUATE STUDENT OF THE FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES WON THE GRAND PRIZE AT THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD ON KOREAN STUDIES OF CENTRAL EURASIA
On October 17-18, 2024, the III International Olympiad in Korean Studies was held at Istanbul University (Turkey), where Nazerke Muratkhankyzy, a second-year graduate student of the Department of the Far East, received the Grand Prize. Under the guidance of PhD, acting associate professor Aigerim Belyalova, Nazerke presented her project on the topic «Methods of using statistical data from Korean government agencies and related organizations: the example of the Korean automotive industry in Kazakhstan».
In her interview, Nazerke noted: «After participating in the academic Olympiad in Korean studies, I had vivid impressions. This inspired me to study Korean culture and language more deeply. Communication with other participants and teachers broadened my horizons and gave me the opportunity to share experiences. I would like to express my gratitude to our department and faculty for their help and support.»
The Olympiads in Korean studies at Istanbul University are held annually. This year, students from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Slovenia, Turkey, Kazakhstan and South Korea took part in the international Olympiad, who was selected in the first round at their home universities. Professors from South Korea, Jordan, Slovenia and Turkey were invited as the jury.
The International Academic Olympiad in Korean Studies was held in parallel with the VII International Conference on Korean Studies of Central Eurasia, where scientists from different countries spoke. It is noteworthy that last academic year, undergraduate student of the Department of the Far East Kozhakhmetova Zhaniya also received the Grand Prize at this Olympiad, which emphasizes the high level of training of students of the Department of the Far East. This achievement at the Muratkhankyzy Fair once again confirmed the high level of knowledge of the students and became an inspiring example for all Korean scholars participating.
