Activists of the Faculty of International Relations celebrated UN Day and the upcoming Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan
On October 24, 2024, the Academic Regional Resource Center for UN Information Support at the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized a final conference on the results of the decade in honor of the UN Day, the 10th Anniversary of KazNU as a UNAI global hub and the 90th Anniversary of the university.
Participants also noted the importance of the upcoming Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The event was held in the “UN Plaza” building with the support of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty.
As part of the event, an address by the UN Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres was shown, and speeches by guests and participants were announced.
The key note peaker was the Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Almaty Mr. Muderrisoglu, who emphasized the importance of the UN, the role of Turkey, the Sustainable Development Goals and the partnership between countries to achieve them.
Vlastimil Samek, representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, spoke about the key role of the UN in maintaining peace and stability, including limiting the use of nuclear weapons.
UNHCR Statelessness Officer in Central Asia Sergiu Gaina spoke about the organization's work to address the issue of stateless persons.
The center's activists presented a documentary about the activities of KazNU as a global UNAI hub and the work of the Academic Regional Resource Center.
As part of the event, first-year students presented a music video for the song of the Dos-Mukasan group - "Kuanyshym Menin". The video was also dedicated to the Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the country's role in maintaining peace and security.
The students also shared their thoughts on the transformations not only within the UN, but also in international relations in general. One of the final sessions was the awarding of the winners of the drawing competition on the theme of peace, 17 SDGs and the activities of the UN.
The event ended after an interactive discussion session with invited speakers, where special attention was paid to discussing the goals of sustainable development, their implementation in the future and the role of the young generation of international relations.
