Curatorial hour on the topic: "The role of renewable energy sources in achieving the goals of sustainable development and environmental protection"
On 10/26/2024, the teacher of the Department of Geography, Environmental Management and Cadastre, Yelikbayeva Sh., as part of the curatorial hour of the 1st year of the specialty "Cadastre", an open lesson was held to increase environmental awareness of students, the topic of the role of renewable energy sources in solving topical issues of sustainable development and environmental protection was touched upon. The participants discussed key aspects of the use of sources such as solar, wind, hydro and geothermal energy, as well as bioenergy, and their impact on global socio-economic and environmental processes.
The main focus of the meeting was on the relationship between renewable energy sources and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The focus is on the following objectives:
- SDG 1. Poverty eradication. The use of clean and affordable energy helps to reduce utility costs and create jobs, which helps to reduce poverty.
- SDG 2. Eliminating hunger. Sustainable energy supply plays an important role in the development of agriculture through energy-saving technologies and improved access to water resources.
- SDG 13. Combating climate change. Switching to renewable energy sources reduces greenhouse gas emissions, helping to curb global warming.
- SDG 14. Conservation of marine ecosystems. The abandonment of fossil fuels helps to reduce ocean pollution and protect marine biota.
- SDG 15. Conservation of terrestrial ecosystems. The introduction of environmentally friendly technologies helps to preserve forests and biodiversity, reducing the negative impact on nature.
During the discussion, the students highlighted the advantages of switching to clean energy: reducing pollution, saving natural resources and improving the quality of life. Examples of successful international and Russian initiatives in the field of renewable energy, such as the development of wind farms, solar plants and biomass processing systems, were also considered.
The curatorial hour ended with an active discussion, where participants expressed their ideas and suggestions on how they can contribute to the promotion of sustainable development and environmental protection in their daily lives. Such events help students to better understand global environmental problems and their connection with modern technologies, as well as motivate them to actively participate in solving sustainable development problems.
