"Legal Mechanisms for Vehicle Recycling as a Strategy for Combating Climate Change: Analysis and Perspectives"

29 october, 2024

On 10.23.2024, as part of the implementation of UN SDG No. 13 "Combating climate Change", associate professors of the Department of Criminal Law, Criminal Proceedings and Criminalistics Baisalov A. Zh., Tlepbergenov O. N. and students of the Faculty of Law visited car recycling points in Almaty and, assessing the scale of recycling processes, discussed the importance of an effective legal mechanism for the disposal of unusable cars.

"Older cars, especially those with unusable engines, emit more carbon dioxide (co₂) and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. An effective legal mechanism for the proper disposal of old cars and their replacement with more environmentally friendly models (electric vehicles or hybrids) will help reduce CO₂ emissions, which directly contributes to the achievement of SDG 13," Associate Professor Tlepbergenov noted during the discussion.

Such a mechanism is also necessary in order to legally consolidate mandatory car recycling standards, encouraging the use of environmentally friendly technologies and compliance with established emission standards.

Without such a mechanism, the goals of sustainable development in the field of climate change and recycling cannot be fully achieved.
