31 october, 2024

On October 31, the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology hosted an  open lecture by Olzhas Duysen on the topic "Climate change, introduction to Carbon Neutrality, mechanisms of Carbon Markets, natural (biological) technologies of Carbon Dioxide sequestration". Olzhas Duysen – ecologist, microbiologist, honorary graduate of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, MSc Environmental sciences, Director of the Private Company “Caspian Environmental Consortium”. The scientist and practitioner devoted his lecture to topical issues of global climate change caused by anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions, and approaches to solving this acute problem of humanity. The speaker described possible long-term strategies for achieving carbon neutrality in production.

In addition, Olzhas Duysen presented his project to remove carbon dioxide and eliminate the carbon footprint from the atmosphere using phytoplankton from the Caspian Sea, and also spoke about the possibilities of producing superfood based on a live microalgae culture Chlorella.

The lecture aroused great interest among students and young scientists. The audience highly appreciated the practical value and scientific validity of the author's approaches, noting the high level of preparation of the material and the importance of the presented initiatives for sustainable development and environmental protection.

The lecture became a platform for the exchange of opinions between students, young scientists and practitioners. During the discussion, the necessity for more active involvement of the scientific community and the public in solving environmental problems facing humanity was emphasized.

The event is organized by a community of students and young scientists AIChE KazNU for all interested parties.
