AS PART OF THE SDG ON «QUALITY EDUCATION» THE IQBAL’S READINGS WERE HELD AT THE FACULTY OF ORIENTAL STUDIES
November 11, 2024 at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University organized a poetry reading “Iqbal’s Readings” in honor of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, a great Pakistani poet, wise thinker, a prominent representative of Islamic modernism of the twentieth century. The main purpose of the event is to promote cultural heritage, strengthen friendship between the two countries, encourage students to study oriental literature and philosophy.
At the event, a special online address was delivered by Senator Walid Iqbal, grandson of the distinguished thinker Allama Muhammad Iqbal, and Dr. Abdul Iqbal Rauf Rafiki, Director of the Iqbal Academy. They conveyed their best wishes to the students and shared inspirational insights. Additionally, Dr. Murtaza Noor, a representative from the OIC’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation based in Islamabad, expressed his gratitude to the staff and students of the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies for their role in strengthening cultural and academic ties.
The guests of honor made a welcoming speech.
Yem Natalya Borisovna, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, in her speech noted: “Allama Iqbal was a man of rare vision, whose poetry and philosophy became a source of inspiration for people striving for knowledge and freedom. Iqbal's personality and his works have been the subject of careful study by orientalists of various countries, both in the West and the East.
Today, by studying his writings, we can draw wisdom that helps us understand contemporary challenges and opportunities. We hope that events like this will inspire us to explore in depth and strengthen ties between our countries and cultures.”
The 1st year students of the Urdu Language and Literature Department revealed Iqbal's thoughts and philosophies and read poetry. The event was also attended by Pakistani students studying at S.D. Asfendiyarov KazNMU. The Embassy of Pakistan in Kazakhstan presented certificates and memorable gifts to all participants who performed Iqbal's poems.
