“The Impact of Ludomania on International Relations: Global Consequences of Gambling and its Place in Politics”
Within the framework of the UN's “Sustainable Development Goals”, particularly in the context of addressing issues related to ensuring health and well-being, as well as nurturing a conscious generation through quality education, Associate Professor of the Department of International Relations A.R. Alipbayev organized a round table discussion on November 14, 2024, with 4th-year students majoring in “International Relations” (group IR-31К). 4th-year students Yermek Zhuldyz and Bayzhanova Aiym acted as presenters on the discussed topic, presenting a comprehensive analysis of ludomania, or pathological gambling addiction, as a phenomenon that directly impacts the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
Ludomania can negatively affect all the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Program, making it crucial to take action to address this problem.
During the discussion, participants put forward the following suggestions for regulating the problem:
* Raising public awareness: Increasing public awareness about ludomania.
* Early intervention: Early detection and treatment of ludomania symptoms.
* Accessible treatment: Ensuring accessibility of treatment for ludomania.
* Legal regulation: Taking legislative measures to regulate the gambling industry.
It was suggested that these measures would help reduce the social and economic consequences of ludomania and contribute to achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
