The library of the Far East Department has been enriched with books from the Korea Foundation.
On December 19, 2024, the Department of Far East Studies received textbooks on the Korean language, materials for preparing for the International Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), literary works, and language teaching aids as part of the support from the Korea Foundation. The total cost of the textbooks is 2 million won (2,000 dollars), all books were given to the department free of charge. Thanks to the unique opportunity of cooperation with the Korea Foundation, the department’s library collection has been replenished with completely new textbooks, including books that date back to the current year of publication.
The textbooks were provided based on requests from teachers of the Department of Far East Studies, and included such materials as studying the Korean language through TV series, Chinese characters, and the language of media. Among the teaching materials were books on source studies and historiography, culture and literature, and even books by Nobel Prize winner Han Kang. These textbooks will help diversify the educational process, improve the teaching base, library collection, and help in teaching students.
The Korea Foundation and the Department of Far East have fruitfully cooperated, so at the beginning of this academic year an agreement on the arrival of a visiting professor was signed. Thus, already in January 2025, the arrival of a PhD doctor, a specialist in Korean studies is expected.
