The Department of Far Eastern Studies Discussed International Projects with the Delegated Professor

On February 5, 2025, the Department of Far Eastern Studies held a meeting with Professor Son Yoo Jeong, a delegated professor from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. During the meeting, the prospects and directions of international projects aimed at the development of Korean studies and strengthening cooperation between universities were discussed.
The Department of Far Eastern Studies is preparing a new international project funded by the Korea Foundation, which focuses on the development of Korean studies in Kazakhstan. The project aims to deepen academic research and expand the teaching of the Korean language and culture in Kazakhstan.
Earlier, under the leadership of Professor Lee Byung Jo from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, the Department of Far Eastern Studies successfully implemented an international project from 2017 to 2020, dedicated to the development of textbooks on Korean literature for Kazakhstan, including the literature of the Korean diaspora in the CIS, and training specialists in Korean literature. This experience laid the foundation for the development of a new five-year project aimed at further strengthening academic ties and expanding the training program for specialists in Korean studies.
The meeting with the new delegated professor, Son Yoo Jeong, also addressed key themes and directions of the future project. Special attention was given to issues of cooperation with Kazakhstani educational and scientific institutions, as well as the organization of educational programs and exchanges for students and faculty members.
The project will continue to strengthen the position of the Department of Far Eastern Studies in the international academic sphere and contribute to the development of Korean studies in Kazakhstan and other countries in Central Asia.
