Open educational hour on environmental literacy

On February 4, 2025, within the framework of pedagogical practice under the guidance of teachers of the Department of Pedagogy and Educational Management of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, PhD, Associate Professor B. Imanbekova and teacher M. Myrzagulova, 1st–year doctoral students of the specialty «8D02302 – Translation (Western languages)» A. Shaimanov and J. Burkitbayeva conducted an open educational hour on The theme is «Recycling and reuse», organized in accordance with the objectives of SDG 12 («Rational consumption and production»).

The event took place in the physics and Mathematics Lyceum «Algorifm» in Almaty and brought together students of grades 10-11, lyceum teachers, as well as students of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi. The main purpose of the educational hour was the formation of eco-literacy and the change of consumer habits among schoolchildren. During the event, participants discussed topical issues related to waste sorting, recycling, and reuse practices.

The interactive format included an exchange of opinions, game tasks, as well as a questionnaire, the results of which revealed innovative approaches to solving environmental problems through recycling and reuse of resources. Following the educational hour, the participants concluded that the preservation of the ecosystem is the collective responsibility of each person, and conscious consumption is an important step towards the sustainable development of society.
