Linguocultural Factors in Literary Translation Discussed at the Department of Chinese Studies

On February 11, 2025, the Department of Chinese Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a scientific seminar on the topic "Linguocultural Factors in Literary Translation." The seminar was held as part of the research activities of young scholars, with PhD candidate in Translation Studies, G. Katbayeva, presenting her scientific findings as a speaker. The event brought together experts in translation studies and literary studies, university faculty members, and young researchers.
During the seminar, participants discussed the preservation of national cultural codes in literary translation, issues of linguistic equivalence, challenges in intercultural communication, and translator strategies. Special attention was given to the methods of conveying linguocultural features using the example of the Chinese translation of M. O. Auezov’s novel The Path of Abai.
The academic discussion also addressed the promotion of Kazakh literature on the global stage, improving translation quality, and identifying future research directions. Participants explored pressing issues in translation studies and exchanged insights.
At the conclusion of the seminar, recommendations for further research in the field of literary translation were formulated. Organizers and attendees emphasized that such events provide a new impetus for the advancement of translation studies.
