February 14 – in honor of the International Book Donation Day, the library of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University holds the traditional "Give a Book to the Library" campaign.
The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, noted at the third session of the National Kurultai that "The library is the main memory of the state and the nation. Therefore, the development of library affairs should not be treated indifferently. A book should be accessible to the reader"
This charitable campaign is organized with the aim of increasing library collections and encouraging readers to engage in active reading. Thus, any citizen can donate their books from their personal collection to libraries and contribute to the development of education and culture.
The donated books will be placed in a special book corner in the classical reading room. Books donated by professors, scientists, teachers, student organizations, and individual students of the university will be added to the Farabi Library's collection.
Participants in the campaign can donate academic works, textbooks, fiction, as well as valuable editions or manuscripts.
When accepting books, their thematic, scientific, historical, and artistic value will be taken into account.
The library accepts the following types of publications as gift books, in both traditional (printed) and electronic formats:
- Textbooks and teaching-methodical publications (published in the last 5 years);
- Scientific and popular science publications (published in the last 5 years);
- Art albums;
- Domestic and foreign fiction;
- Journals relevant to the library's focus or intended to restore missing copies in the collection;
- Editions related to rare, unique, and valuable manuscripts.
