International Scientific Round Table: Maritime Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan (UN SDG No. 14 "Conservation of Marine Ecosystems")

On February 21, 2025, the Department of Customs, Financial, and Environmental Law hosted an international scientific roundtable dedicated to the maritime legislation of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The event was attended by master's students from Baku State University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, who are studying within the dual-degree master's program "7M04212 – Maritime and Energy Law."
This event was organized within the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 14 – "Conservation of Marine Ecosystems" and aimed at discussing relevant legal aspects of marine environment protection and maritime activity regulation.
The event was organized by the Head of the Department of Customs, Financial, and Environmental Law, Professor G.A. Kuanaliyeva, the coordinator of the dual-degree educational program "7M04212 – Maritime and Energy Law," Professor G.T. Aygarinova, and academic advisor G.K. Rasheva.
Among the participants were master's students from Baku State University: Amirli Aziza Ilham, Ibrahimzade Lala, Mammadova Sevda, Mirzayeva Sevinj, Tayarly Sinan, Huseynova Aynur, and Huseynov Araz, as well as master's students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University: Karkyn M., Abilova D., Nagmanov N., Bektursyn Zh., and students of the Faculty of Law.
During the international scientific roundtable, participants discussed key legal mechanisms for marine environment protection in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, current challenges, and ways to address them. International agreements and treaties regulating the use of marine resources and pollution prevention were reviewed. Particular attention was given to the role of national legislation in ensuring sustainable marine environment management and law enforcement practices in marine ecosystem protection.
