Iconology as a Method of Interpretation in Historical Science

On February 28, 2025, at 5:00 PM, visiting professor of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and visiting researcher at the Institute for Film and Audiovisual Production Research at Sorbonne Nouvelle — Paris, Victoria Vasilyeva, will hold the fourth scientific seminar online on the topic: "Iconology as a Method of Interpretation in Modern Art History: Challenges and Prospects for Historical Science".

The seminar will cover the following issues:

• How can iconology help a historian faced with the problem of analyzing an artistic image (work of art)?
• The communicative potential of an artistic image: features of the formation of connections between the author (artist) and the interpreter (viewer).
• The artistic image as a "system of references": the phenomenon of ingenuity that goes beyond the visible visual range.
