Results of the annual student Olympiad “Petrogames - 2025”
February 27-28, 2025 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of Al-Farabi KazNU the Olympiad “Petrogames – 2025” was held. The organizer of the event was the Department of Physical Chemistry, Catalysis and Petrochemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. The sponsor of the Olympiad was the Kazakh enterprise for production of oils and lubricants LLP “Lukoil Lubricants Central Asia” (Almaty). This event has become a good annual tradition and is held for the second time since 2024. This year 39 students from K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, Kazakh-British Technical University, Satpayev University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the Olympiad.
The main goals and objectives of the Olympiad are to identify and develop students’ creative abilities and interest in scientific activity, to create the necessary conditions to support gifted students and schoolchildren, to promote scientific knowledge. The Olympiad, being an integral part of chemical education in Kazakhstan, is called to fulfill educational, cognitive and developmental functions. Active participation in the organization and conducting of the Olympiad were members of the organization SPE KazNU (Society of Petroleum Engineers KazNU) (Pogorov F. (president of SPE), Marat A., Bolekbayev E., Zhambyl D., Panyukov V., Kislova A., Ovsyannikova E., Maulenova Z., Balgarayev A., Simonov M.), master’s students 1 course specialty “7M07101 - Petrochemistry” (Nurym B., Matkir J., Ersainova D., Amanzholov A.) and professor staff of the department (Aubakirov E.A. (head of the department), Tashmukhambetova J.H., Tusupbekova A.S., Yeshova Zh.T., Akbayeva D.N., Zhakirova N.K., Sassykova L.R., Bakirova B.S., Kudaibergenov N.J., Zhaksylykova G.J., Kanapiyeva F.M., Abdrasilova A.K.). Their important and highly professional work should be noted.
The Interuniversity Olympiad was held in 2 stages. On the first day at the first stage the participants underwent testing (1st round) and chemical Kahoot (2nd round) in order to pre-assess the participants’ knowledge of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry. On the second day at the second stage the participants were offered to solve problems. According to the results of the two stages of the Olympiad, which took place during two days, the finalists with the highest number of points were revealed. According to the decision of the organizers and the sponsor of the Olympiad it was decided to financially reward the finalists for the first five places. The total prize fund from the sponsor of the event amounted to 320 000 tenge. The representative of Lukoil Lubricants Central Asia LLP Barbashov S.S. awarded each participant with a diploma and memorable gifts. The participants of the Olympiad had an opportunity not only to show their knowledge, skills and feel their relevance and necessity, but also to pass summer internships at the enterprise “Lukoil Lubricants Central Asia” and gain valuable experience.
