Round table "Modern Library and Challenges of the Time"

The open round table was organized by the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies.

The round table was attended by faculty members of the department, students, undergraduates, doctoral students, former graduates, and special honored guests of the round table were deputies of the Almaty Regional Maslikhat, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, culturologist, theater critic and head of the Temirbek Zhurgenov College of Arts Nurbakhyt Bokebaev Abdygalievich, Director of Meruert-S LLP, Chairman of the Almaty Regional Organization "Women's Wing" Moldasheva Meruert Sagindykkyzy, as well as philanthropist Gulzhan Mukhametkhan, director of Super-Star LLP, which deals with industrial equipment, who provided significant sponsorship assistance in the design of the library methodological center of the department.

The main purpose of the round table was to discuss topical issues of the library sphere, including the definition of the mission of libraries, their role and place in modern society. Participants noted the lack of a clearly defined state policy in the field of librarianship, which complicates the formation of an updated unified concept for the development of this sphere. Issues of transformation of ideas about a library specialist were raised, and the tasks of the library professional education system were analyzed.

Faculty, library graduates and students actively participated in the discussion, presenting a number of proposals to address current issues. During the round table, a productive dialogue took place on the need to modernize the library sphere, including scientific and practical activities, human resources and library education.

Particular attention was paid to the development of library education and the improvement of the material and technical base. The dean of the faculty, who provided significant sponsorship assistance in the opening of a modern office, presented Gulzhan Mukhametkhan with Al-Farabi books as a token of gratitude for her contribution. Guests of the round table were also presented with memorable gifts.

Deputies of the regional maslikhat took note of the need to study the libraries of the region for their attractiveness and compliance with the needs of modern users. Teacher of the department Tuyenbaeva K. made a presentation on topical issues of librarianship, offering recommendations for cooperation and modernization of libraries.
