Environmental Education as a Step Towards Sustainable Development

On March 11, 2025, the first-year students majoring in "Foreign Philology" at the Faculty of Philology of Farabi Kazakh National University held an environmental lecture within the framework of SDG 13 – Climate Action.
The lecture touched upon pressing environmental challenges facing modern society. The participants explored the impact of climate change on nature and human life and discussed the ways to reduce negative effects on the environment. The development of environmental awareness among young people and the role of educational institutions in fostering a responsible attitude towards nature were discussed. Following the main session, a discussion was held in which the students exchanged ideas on possible ways to reduce environmental pollution. It was noted that small but consistent actions, such as waste sorting, reducing plastic use, and energy conservation, can lead to significant positive changes. Additionally, they watched a social video illustrating the consequences of irresponsible environmental behavior, which sparked active discussion. In conclusion, the participants presented their proposals for implementing environmental initiatives in university life. Farabi KazNU actively supports students’ initiatives aimed at addressing global environmental issues. The university promotes the formation of conscious and responsible attitudes toward the environment and provides opportunities for the implementation of various environmental projects. The lecture made a significant contribution to raising environmental awareness among the students, allowing them not only to gain new knowledge but also to reflect on their personal responsibility for the future of the planet. Such events help young people recognize the importance of sustainable development and foster an active civic position.
