A seminar on "The role of the state and society in overcoming religious extremism"

        On March 19, 2025, the Department of Religious Studies and Cultural Studies of the Al Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a seminar on "The role of the state and society in overcoming religious extremism" for sustainable development "Peace, justice and effective institutions." The seminar was attended by the director of the Academy of Countering Religious Extremism, a well-known religious expert, theologian Abdurakyn Merey. The purpose of the event is to discuss the prevention of religious extremism and radicalization, and to discuss the role of the state and society in this area.

        During the seminar, Abdurakyn Merey made important presentations on the dangers of religious extremism, the causes of its spread among young people and ways to combat extremism. In addition, he noted the role of the state and society in combating extremism through religious tolerance, intercultural dialogue and strengthening civil society.

        Students and undergraduates who participated in the event received in-depth information about ways to prevent and negatively impact religious extremism, asked their questions and exchanged opinions on the topic.

        The seminar highlighted the importance of joint interaction between government and public structures, and also touched upon new ideas and practices on effective strategies to combat religious extremism.
