Meeting with the Kazatomprom Delegation at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of KazNU: New Prospects for Cooperation and Sustainable Development (SDG 7 and SDG 9)

On March 19, 2025, a meeting with the delegation of the National Atomic Company Kazatomprom was held at the Faculty of Physics and Technology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event was attended by representatives of Kazatomprom's management, including Kuanysh Omarkebov, Chief Director for Production; Armanbek Omirgali, Director of the Department of Science, Rare Metals, and Rare Earth Metals; Alexander Avdeev, Deputy General Director for Research; and Aizat Zhekeev, Director-Rector of the Kazakh Nuclear University.
From the KazNU side, the meeting was led by Nurzada Baisen, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology, and was attended by department heads, faculty members, and researchers.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the prospects for scientific and academic cooperation between Kazatomprom and KazNU. The participants addressed key issues related to joint research in nuclear energy, rare metals, radiation safety, and the training of specialists in nuclear physics and materials science.
The meeting agenda included welcoming speeches from the faculty and Kazatomprom leadership, followed by discussions on potential collaboration areas. Kazatomprom representatives expressed their interest in developing scientific projects and working with the university to train specialists for Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry.
Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The meeting made a significant contribution to the realization of several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals:
SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: advancing scientific cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy and sustainable energy technologies.
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: exchanging knowledge and scientific developments in nuclear technologies, new materials, and innovative solutions for the nuclear industry.
This meeting became an important step in strengthening cooperation between the university and the country's leading nuclear company, opening new prospects for scientific research, specialist training, and the sustainable development of Kazakhstan's nuclear industry.
