Biological Treatment of Wastewater – A Guarantee of Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development

The biological treatment of wastewater is currently one of the key issues in the field of ecology. Ensuring the environmental safety of industrial and domestic wastewater, conserving natural resources, and protecting the environment are among the primary responsibilities of modern society.

In this regard, within the framework of pedagogical practice and Goal 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Responsible Consumption and Production, a roundtable discussion titled “Biological Treatment of Wastewater: Innovations and Future Prospects” was organized on March 19, 2025, at the Department of Biotechnology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The event was hosted by the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology and the Department of Biotechnology, under the supervision of Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Zayadan B.K., and Associate Professor, PhD Bolatkhan K. The event was organized by A. A. Amangeldiyeva, a first-year PhD student in the 8D05105 – "Biotechnology" program, and attended by students specializing in biotechnology. The discussion focused on the importance, effectiveness, and positive environmental impact of biological wastewater treatment methods.

Objective of the Event

The main goal of the roundtable was to expand students' knowledge in the field of biological wastewater treatment, develop their research skills, and discuss innovative ideas for solving environmental issues.

During the event, students presented and discussed their research, projects, and ideas. It provided an excellent opportunity for them to showcase their knowledge, exchange experiences, and establish new collaborations.
