KazNU Faculty of Physics and Technology and Bar-Ilan University Discuss Industrial PhD Program. SDG 4 and SDG 11

An online meeting was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) with representatives of Bar-Ilan University (BIU), Israel, to discuss the establishment of a joint industrial PhD program.
The discussion was attended by KazNU’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs A.G. Kazmagambetov, Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Technology N.A. Beisen, Director of the Department of Academic Affairs, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Deputy Dean for Research, and Heads of Departments of the Faculty. BIU was represented by Professor Zeev Zalevsky.
The program is designed to train highly qualified specialists in engineering fields, allowing them to combine theoretical education at BIU with practical experience at industrial partner enterprises.
Key Areas of the PhD Program:
- Microchip Design
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning
- Cybersecurity
- Energy-Efficient Electronics
- Photonic Processing
- Photovoltaics and Sustainable Energy Technologies
The program is designed for three years and includes advanced courses, research work under the guidance of leading BIU professors, and practical training in industry.
Admission Requirements:
- Master's degree in engineering disciplines with high academic performance
- Research experience and publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Two recommendation letters from academic or industry representatives
Academic Requirements:
- Study of specialized disciplines (from 16 to 44 academic credits)
- Passing qualifying exams and defending a research proposal
- Preparatory courses for students without an engineering background

- SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Implementation of energy-efficient technologies and digital solutions
