Graduate Students of the Department of Biodiversity and Bioresources at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University completed an Internship at Saint Petersburg State University

In particular, master’s students Tursymbay K.S., Aliyakim A., Koishekhenova D., Bekenova A., Qalykova Zh., and Bekbosyn N., specializing in Biology and Geobotany, undertook their internship at the Herbarium Centre of the V.L. Komarov Botanical Institute, which houses a unique and extensive herbarium collection. As part of SDG 15, they became familiar with methods of sorting, digitizing, and scientifically processing herbarium specimens, and had the opportunity to work directly with rare samples related to the flora of Kazakhstan.

Additionally, under SDG 4, the students attended a series of lectures and seminars held at both the institute and university, where they deepened their understanding of current trends in botanical science and international standards in floristic research.

The internship provided young researchers with valuable opportunities for professional development, establishing scientific collaborations, and defining directions for future research. In line with SDG 17, this internship can be seen as the beginning of future joint projects between the two universities.
