Water is the Source of Life: Preserving It Is Our Shared Responsibility

On April 16, 2025, the Department of Turkic Studies and Language Theory at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a demonstration lesson on the topic: “Clean Water and Sanitation”, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 6. The event was organized by lecturers G. Ualikhanova and K. Dushaeva for the first-year students of groups 102 and 103.
Water is the source of life and the foundation of all living things. It’s no coincidence that access to clean water is among the top global priorities. Today, over 2 billion people worldwide still lack reliable access to safe drinking water. This issue is also becoming increasingly pressing in Kazakhstan due to climate change, water mismanagement, and growing environmental degradation, all contributing to water scarcity.
The session aimed to raise awareness about this urgent issue. Students were presented with informative slides and posters highlighting the global water crisis and practical methods of water conservation. The program also featured poetry and proverbs related to water, adding a cultural and reflective dimension to the discussion. An interactive “Q&A” segment allowed students to actively share their thoughts and exchange ideas.
The event encouraged students to adopt a more responsible and sustainable attitude toward water use, while also fostering a greater sense of personal ecological responsibility. By the end of the session, participants had learned new strategies for saving water and recognized the importance of applying them in their daily lives.
