International Meeting at KazNU: Artificial Intelligence in Environmental Monitoring and Sustainable Development

On April 9, 2025, a significant international meeting took place at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. Professor Stephen S. Young, PhD, from the Department of Geography and Sustainability at Salem State University (Massachusetts, USA), paid a special visit to the university to share his experience.
The event was opened by the Head of the Department, Professor Madina Yesimkhanovna Mansurova, who presented the department's activities and its development directions in the field of artificial intelligence. In his speech, Professor Stephen Young focused on modern approaches to satellite monitoring, climate change, and environmental sustainability, highlighting the crucial role of artificial intelligence in these areas.
During the meeting, senior lecturer Asel Ospan delivered a presentation on the topic “Air Quality Assessment in the Western Kazakhstan Region Based on the Tropomi Project,” sharing new data and results related to regional environmental monitoring. In addition, 4th-year student of the Data Science program, Ernur Polatbek, presented his project on developing an adaptive database architecture based on satellite imagery and data from automated observation points.
The meeting continued in a format of discussion and scientific exchange, becoming an important platform for combining international expertise with domestic research. Events like this contribute significantly to the expansion of academic partnerships and the advancement of scientific thought at KazNU.
