A Korean studies student became a prize winner of the Korean language recitation competition from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.

On April 18, 2025, the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University, with the support of the Korean Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, held a Korean language recitation competition "K-Lit & Treats". The recitation competition was held in person, more than 20 students of Korean studies of the 1st and 2nd courses of Almaty took part in this competition. The main goal of the event was to unite lovers of the Korean language, literature and culture of the Republic of Korea, as well as to develop the creative potential of students and cultivate literary and artistic taste. During the competition, the participants recited poetic works by Korean authors Mah Jonggi, Ki Hyung-do, Kim Hyun-seung.

From the Al-Farabi KazNU students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Department of the Far East: Miras Bariyev, Aigerim Niyazbaeva, Aruzhan Darubay, Akzharkyn Kenzhebek and Yerkezhan Muratkhan took part.

For 2 weeks, the students diligently prepared for the event under the guidance of Saule Zhussipbekovna Ismailova, a senior lecturer of the Department of the Far East. During the preparation process, the students worked on the features of reading poetry in Korean, acting and gestures, the complexity of intonation conveying emotions, and the correct placement of pauses. Poems in Korean are unique, they contain a special meaning, and a secret message is veiled. That is why the participation of junior students is so important in the development of young Korean studies specialists; thanks to this they get acquainted with the culture of the country of the language they are studying. During the event, the students competed in their ability to convey the mood of poems in Korean, pronunciation, intonation and acting skills. They also had the opportunity to communicate in an informal setting with students from other universities, get acquainted with the culture of holding competitions in the Korean language.

Based on the results of the performances, a 2nd year student who demonstrated outstanding talents and abilities in reading poems in Korean - Muratkhan Yerkezhan was awarded a certificate of honorable 2nd place and memorable prizes. Yerkezhan's achievement and her undeniable talent were recognized and highly appreciated by the jury members. And of all the participants, only the students of the Far East Department were awarded letters of thanks!
