Republican Olympiad in the Field of Oriental Studies (Korean Studies)
On April 22, 2025, the Department of Far Eastern Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the traditional Republican Subject Olympiad among students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan specializing in Oriental Studies (Korean Studies). This intellectual competition brought together the best students from across the country and provided an opportunity to assess their knowledge of the Korean language, culture, history, religion, and society.
The main goal of the Olympiad is to enhance the professional level of students studying in the field of Oriental Studies, conduct an in-depth evaluation of their knowledge in the Korean language, Korean history and culture, as well as to create conditions for the development of the scientific and creative potential of young scholars. The event was organized to support and identify talented students, promote the advancement of their knowledge and skills, and foster their creative and academic growth in the field of Oriental Studies.
Students from the 2nd to 4th years of study in the “Oriental Studies” program participated in the Olympiad, representing the following universities: Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
Distinguished guests and jury members included Mr. Cho Yeonun, Chair of the Commission and President of Shinhan Bank Kazakhstan JSC; Mr. Oh Sang Ho, invited researcher at Abylai Khan KazUIR & WL; and faculty members of the department, who extended their best wishes to the participants. The Olympiad program consisted of two stages: a Korean language test, a test on Korean history and culture, and a presentation on a given topic.
Based on the results of the Olympiad, the winners and prize holders were awarded special diplomas and certificates of appreciation. The Olympiad is not only a knowledge competition but also a unique platform for experience exchange and professional growth for youth passionate about Korean culture.
