Geographers of the Turkic world gathered at KazNU

The II International Congress of Geographers of the Turkic world was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. For two days, the participants not only discussed global environmental problems, but also considered ways to solve them.

The Congress brought together more than 200 scientists and environmental experts, renowned geographers, teachers and young researchers from Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

At the meeting, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, emphasized that special attention must be paid to the use of alternative energy sources while preserving natural resources. "In his speech, the President of the country, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, stated: 'In today's conditions, the relevance of cooperation in combating ecological and climate change is growing. It is impossible to address climate challenges alone". Furthermore, in his address, the university leader stressed that KazNU scientists are working on environmental issues such as water scarcity, drought, and land degradation in Central Asia through remote sensing technologies.

Speakers from the congress podium also included Bahodir Mamurov, Rector of the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute; professors from Turkey Bülent Aksoy, Ömer Türksever, and Halil Toksan; professor from Kyrgyzstan Turgunbek Niyazov; and other researchers who discussed pressing geographical issues

During the II International Congress of Geographers of the Turkic World, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the Bukhara State Pedagogical Institute. Under the agreement, both sides will implement joint projects in the fields of social sciences, humanities and natural sciences.

It is worth noting that the International Kazakh-Turkic University named after Khoja Akhmet Yasawi, Kyrgyz National University named after Zh.Balasaguna (Kyrgyzstan), JSC "Institute of Geography and Water Security", Osmangazi University (Turkiye).
