The Department of Far East at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, with the support of the Literary Translation Institute  of Korea, is launching an educational project titled “2025 Overseas Translation Workshop Program” starting in March 2025. As part of this project, undergraduate and graduate students specializing in Korean studies are working on translating the renowned work of Lee Hyo-seok, When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom.

On May 14, 2025, as part of the masterclass, an online meeting was held with Professor Park Gyu-jun from Daegu University (South Korea). Professor Park delivered a lecture on the literary and cultural analysis of Lee Hyo-seok’s work, sharing his academic insights and deepening the understanding of the text and the context of its creation.

During the lecture, students showed keen interest and actively asked questions about both the artistic features of the work and the challenges of translating it into Kazakh. The discussion became an important part of the meeting, contributing to a deeper reflection on the text, expanding students' intercultural competence, and developing practical skills in literary translation.

The masterclass has become a significant event in the educational and research activities of the department, strengthening academic and cultural ties between Korea and Kazakhstan. This event not only increased students' interest in Korean literature but also provided them with a unique opportunity to interact directly with members of the academic community from the Republic of Korea. This is especially valuable in the context of training highly qualified specialists in Korean studies and literary translation.

The Department of Far East Studies plans to continue this initiative in the future, expanding international cooperation and opening new opportunities for students interested in Korean culture, literature, and translation.
