PhD, Senior Lecturer A.M. Nurzhayeva from the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, undertook a scientific trip to Qingdao (PRC) as part of a state-funded fundamental research project. During the visit, she explored the World Center for Sinology – one of the leading international research institutions dedicated to Chinese studies.

The primary objective of the trip was to gather materials essential for the research project focused on contemporary Chinese culture, language, and international academic collaboration. As part of the visit, a meeting was held with Chinese colleagues, including the Center’s Director, Professor Xu Baofeng, and Senior Researcher, Professor Sun Jianhua, who shared recent publications and materials from the Center’s specialized library.

The trip enabled the collection of valuable resources for a comparative study on the development of Confucian thought in East Asian countries, including China, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. Special attention was given to analyzing the differences in the interpretation and application of Confucian principles in the socio-cultural and educational contexts of these nations.

The collected data will serve as a foundation for future academic publications and will be incorporated into the development of teaching materials for Chinese studies. Moreover, the information gathered will enhance the teaching of Eastern philosophy within KazNU’s academic programs.

This collaboration strengthens scholarly ties between Kazakhstan and China and broadens the academic horizons of both students and faculty of KazNU in the field of Chinese studies.
